The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards was aired on Sunday, Jan. 17. This year’s show was hosted by Ricky Gervais, mostly known for his roles in the British version of “The Office” and The Invention of Lying. More than 50 Hollywood stars presented the awards for the night.
In the category of Best Motion Picture – Drama, the nominees were, “The Hurt Locker,” “Inglorious Basterds,” “Precious,” “Up In The Air” and “Avatar.” “Avatar,” which recently broke Titanic’s long-time record as the top-grossing film of all time, won this award.
James Cameron also won the award for Best Director of a Motion Picture for Avatar. Sandra Bullock won the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, for her role in “The Blind Side.”
The best film of summer 2009, and arguably the funniest movie of the year, “The Hangover” won the award for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical. Taking home the Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical was Robert Downey Jr. for his lead role in “Sherlock Holmes.” Mo’nique won the award of Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture. The PIXAR film of 2009, “Up,” won the award for Best Animated Feature Film. In its first season on air, “Glee” won the award for Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical.
