“Zombieland” - “Time to nut up or shut up!”

“Zombieland” is by far the best comedy to come out since “The Hangover.” Whether you’re into zombie movies or not, “Zombieland” is guaranteed to make you laugh, and is just pure, stupid fun. The premise isn’t anything new: the world is overflowing with Zombies and only a few humans are left to fend for themselves. However, it still comes off as one of the freshest films to debut so far this year.

The films hero is Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), a loner teenager traveling home to see what is left of his family. He claims to be alive because of a set of rules that he lives by (For example: Rule #4 don’t be stingy with your bullets, Rule #1 Good cardio).

Somewhere along his journey he runs into Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), a crazy zombie-killing machine whose only cares in the world are getting zombie-kill-of-the-week and finding Twinkies. The two befriend Wichita and Little Rock, and the rest of the film is the four’s quest to Los Angeles in hopes of finding a land free of zombies.

This is where the film gets just outright silly. At one point they decide to stay the night at Bill Murray’s mansion in Hollywood, to of course find him hiding in his room wearing zombie makeup. The cameo by Murray is one of the funniest 10 minutes ever in a comedy film and is alone worth the price of admission. We also get a great take of Tallahassee and Murray reenacting a scene of “Ghostbusters” with homemade ghost catcher gear.

“Zombieland" offers plenty of laughs and has some pretty awesome slow-motion action scenes of zombie kills. The film is not a horror film or in any way scary, as much of the zombie theme is played down and ends up being more about four strangers dealing with the world they live in as they try to make some type of human connection with each other. There is a love story, but it doesn’t come off as sappy and actually provides some of the best moments.

“Zombieland” offers a decent story and enough action and comedy to make it an awesome film. If you haven’t seen it yet I highly recommend you do.

Rating: Four and a half / Five stars.
