The satirical play “The Government Inspector” will be performed by the Wesleyan Theatre Company starting Sept. 25. The play was written by Nikolai Gogol, a famous Russian novelist and playwright. The main plot of the play centers on a small Russian town and its high officials, who are waiting for the arrival of the government inspector. When a civilian is mistaken for the inspector, the town worships him and he, being human, makes the most of the misconception. Throughout this drama, themes such as human corruption and deception become evident as the scenes unfold.

The cast for “The Government Inspector” include Claire Meyer, Matthew Dwyer, Philip Matthews, Sam Wemhoff, Johnny Jiang, Beth Bargar, Maggie Stanton, Alex Munson, Bethany Eckloff, Darrin Bergers, Ben Stewart, Kyle Spurling, Steavie Hergenrader, Megan Fangmeyer, Kelsey Arendt, Elizabeth Breed, Caroline Vuchetich, Steven Labedz, Josh Swenson, Christiana Barbatelli, Sam Kishline and Thom Cauley.

Performances are scheduled for Sept. 25-28 and Oct. 2-4 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 28 and Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. All shows will be held at Nebraska Wesleyan University in McDonald Theatre, located at 51st and Huntington Ave.

Tickets for NWU students are free. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7.50 for students (12-18 years) and senior citizens and $5 for youth under 12 years.
