Diana Cerón is an international student from Ecuador studying at Nebraska Wesleyan University this year. Cerón is majoring in International Business and Marketing.

She loves to travel and when asked the question “Why Nebraska?” she replied, “Because I wanted to go somewhere in the Midwest and NWU was the first school to reply back to me.”

Cerón has had many fun experiences here so far, but one of her favorites was going to the State Fair here in Lincoln.

Cerón attends the Universidad de San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador. Cerón says that classes in Ecuador are quite similar which has made her transition to our school easier. “The grading system is just the same (A,B,C… etc.) and professors let you call them by their first name,” says Cerón.

Here at NWU Cerón’s favorite class is International Marketing because she learns about other cultures and how to market to them. She also likes the professor’s approach to the class.

The difference Cerón notices from Ecuador to the United States is the culture. “I mean the things such as friendship, customs, values and the hardest for me to accept…food,” says Cerón.

Cerón’s main goal here is to improve her English. Although she is almost completely fluent, she would like to improve grammar and become a little more efficient.

She also hopes to have a different kind of experience than ever before. Cerón says “I want this experience to make me grow up as a person and as a professional, learn about other cultures, meet loads of friends and visit places I have never before been.”

Cerón believes that studying abroad is a once in a lifetime chance that we should all experience if given the option.

Her experience here so far has taught her life lessons that she will hold on to forever. She hopes to learn many more things this year while being away from home.
