With so much raised awareness and collaborative and individual efforts to help Haiti after the Jan. 12 earthquake, Nebraska Wesleyan University's International Relations Organization wanted to do its part to help out. IRO is made up of a mix of NWU students and international exchange students from various regions of the world.

The group discusses world events, participates in cultural events within the community and broadens knowledge about many countries and cultures throughout the world.

Fundraising for Haiti was a project they felt as global leaders they needed to participate in. President of the organization Matt Emerton said the topic was brought up in an officer meeting right after the earthquake happened and they felt they needed to do what they could to help.

They discussed the best time for the fundraising event and decided that this year's International Film Festival at NWU was the best option since many students and members of the community attend this event and have concern for international happenings.

The group raised a total of $85 over the weekend of the film festival and is donating that money directly to the Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund. As of now, they do not have any concrete plans to host another fundraising event for Haiti, but the organization is still accepting donations if people were not able to attend the event or did not know about the fundraising.

Donations can be given in the International Education Office located in the student center.
