Nebraska Wesleyan University’s class of 2010 decided to put a new spin senior traditions this year. Most obviously was the seniors’ decision to give a more nontraditional gift to NWU.
Instead of material gift, like the prairie wolf statue that stands outside of Abel Stadium, the seniors chose to start a fund for the new student center that is projected to be built within the next five years.
“We decided instead of giving a tangible gift, like a bench or statue of some type, that we should give something that will benefit the students of NWU in years to come,” said Jessica States, senior class president.
It is the hope that future senior classes will continue to contribute to this fund until the student center is completed.
Aside from the senior gift, the class of 2010 also made a slight alteration in their fundraising attempts.
As incentive to donate, seniors who gave the monetary equivalent of their age were given a t-shirt. For example, a 21-year-old senior who donated $21 also received a 2010 class t-shirt.
Senior officers hoped that this reward system would increase the amount of donations given by seniors enough to set the record for most money raised by a senior class.
Donations are will be accepted and t-shirts given out at the Grad Fair on Wednesday, March 10 in Great Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All seniors should stop by the Fair to donate and also receive important information for graduation, including tickets and to pay for their cap and gown.
If seniors have any questions or interest in donating money and receiving a t-shirt, contact Jessica States.
