"Tebow! Tebow! Tebow!" These are the chants that rang through Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium and throughout all of Denver this NFL season. Tebow-mania was in full swing in the Mile High City and that energy and lively feeling the Broncos fans once felt during the days of Elway had returned. When all seemed to be lost at 1-4, in came Tim Tebow to display what he could do for the Broncos organization. The euphoria surrounding the city of Denver was something I have not seen in over a decade.
Now, I may be somewhat biased given that I am from Denver, but what I witnessed along with the whole nation was a remarkable story, exciting for any sports fan to watch. Only in his second season, Tim Tebow led the Broncos back into contention and finished with a record of 8-8 and the AFC West title. Whether it was a deep bomb to Damaryius Thomas, a 13 yard scramble on a 3rd and long to get the first down or the heroic and unimaginable 4th quarter comeback wins, Tim Tebow got it done. PERIOD.
All this criticism about his throwing motion and his mechanics every week just drove him to do better and continued to motivate his team to succeed, no matter the obstacles in front of them. Time and time again, Tebow proved all of the critics wrong by pushing himself and his teammates to never give up — and it paid off. Denver reached the playoffs for the first time since 2005, something Jay Cutler has been unable to do as (supposedly) he is the better quarterback with more weapons. Sure. More like a better whiner if you ask me.
Regardless, Tim Tebow's passion and his astonishing will to win blows me away. From the day Denver drafted him I knew he would be something special for the Broncos. So many fans were upset with the move Josh McDaniels made to acquire Tebow in the first round two years ago, but fans did not look to see what this man could bring to the Broncos organization. He is a winner and no one can deny that. More importantly, he is a leader who is confident and has a mental drive like none other. Denver has not had or seen or quarterback with this strong of a will to win since John Elway. This is exactly what Denver needed. Even better, he is one of the most humble athletes in sports today; he takes all of his complements with a grain of salt and always gives the credit to his teammates before himself. If you were a head coach, why wouldn't you want someone like this to lead your team? Ok yes, he has a lot of work to do in order to improve his game, but when you have an athlete like Tim Tebow who is willing to do whatever it takes to get better and an individual like John Elway who says he will be working along side him during the offseason, I would feel pretty confident that he will have made great strides by kickoff next season.
So before the media, critics and "Tebow Haters" start bashing him and jumping to conclusions that he will never be a successful NFL quarterback, give the man some time to develop and prove himself. With the turn around the Broncos had this year, witnessing Tebow's heroics and seeing his drive and passion to win, I can confidently say "I believe". I have been on the Tebow train from day one — are you ready to jump on and believe with me?
