Study in Nebraska or study abroad in South America? If you find yourself asking the same question I did, there is really nothing else to consider but to choose the latter. My experience has been everything that I had dreamed - from the tear-shedding goodbyes with the parents at the airport, to the new host family picking me up in Montevideo, Uruguay airport. Then, being thrown into a new culture, a foreign language and a new university made me feel like a first year again!
As for culture shock: the man who makes you pay to park on “his street” otherwise your car will be keyed, the dog that lives on the street in a dog house, but has no owner, and apparently double lines in the street are just a suggestion to not pass.
The experiences, friends and knowledge I have obtained in my first three months are incredible.
If you are looking for the best semester of your life, learning everyday and a lot of fun, don’t think twice about the decision you face, as Nike says: Just do it.
