Coming off of arguably the best season in program history in 2009, the Nebraska Wesleyan University baseball team is out to prove that it was no fluke. After winning the 2009 GPAC Title and setting the school record for wins with 28, the Prairie Wolves have the potential to be even better.
The Nebraska Wesleyan Univesrity softball team looks to continue their winning ways this season after posting four straight 20-win seasons, which is the winningest stretch in program history. The expectations are running high for the 2010 season as the Prairie Wolves return several key members of last year’s team, including the top two pitchers and two of the top three hitters from 2009.
As this week’s Sound Off poll attests, figure skating still tops the favorite event charts, especially for Nebraska Wesleyan University’s female population. A rising choice for both sexes, however, is snowboarding. Keeping that in mind, I’ve compiled a list of the top athletes in these events and a few others who have snagged a lot of press attention lately.

No I’m not talking about the football team, volleyball team or even the women’s bowling squad, this is basketball season! The Lady Huskers have exploded onto the Women’s College Basketball scene, running out to a 21-0 record, including a 6-0 record against ranked teams so far this year.
Nebraska Wesleyan University sophomore guard Nick Dinan has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents (AD31) men’s basketball Player-of-the-Week. Dinan (Omaha, Neb.) averaged 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists for the week as the Prairie Wolves went 1-1.
Both the Nebraska Wesleyan University men’s and women’s track & field teams continued their indoor season on Jan. 30 when they competed at the Scott Nisely Invitational at Doane College in Crete, Neb. First-year Taylor Tacha was the only NWU individual winner on the day as she won the 55-meter hurdles.

Anne Kersenbrock: I was first attracted to NWU because both of my sisters, Claire and Mary, ran for Wesleyan from 2000-2006. My family and I would come watch them run and seeing that Wesleyan was a successful team made it exciting to watch.

It’s that time of year again, when competitors meet on an open field, smell the newly cut grass, wait for their chance to demolish their opponents. No, I’m not talking about football. It’s cross country season, baby! I know, running for miles doesn’t sound like a spectator sport, but the Nebraska Wesleyan University Men’s and Women’s cross country teams are proving that wrong early on in their season.
Having grown up as a military brat in eight different places before the age of eighteen, head soccer coach Mike Lynch is used to adaptation. Across the country, Lynch has coached everyone from micro children’s soccer teams to high school to other small, liberal arts Universities like Truman State.
In April’s 2009 NFL Draft 256 players were selected. Since that time, 255 players have been signed leaving one sole holdout, Michael Crabtree. The Texas Tech standout, two-time All-American and Biletnikoff award winner (Given to College Football’s top Wide Receiver) is sadly the only draft pick to not have a contract in place.

The Nebraska Wesleyan University volleyball team entered the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll that was released on Sept. 22. The Prairie Wolves are ranked No. 24 in last week’s poll. NWU appears in the AVCA Top 25 for the first time since 2003, when the Prairie Wolves were ranked no.
Both the Nebraska Wesleyan University women’s and men’s soccer teams dropped Great Plains Athletic Conference matches on Saturday night to Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. The NWU women lost 2-1, while the men fell 1-0. The NWU women are now 4-4-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the GPAC, and the men fall to 3-2-4 and 0-1-2 in GPAC.
Alyssa McBride shot a two-day total of 165 (85-80) to defeat the nearest competitor by 13 strokes as she won medalist honors at the Doane College Invite, held Sept. 28-29 at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. For McBride, a sophomore from Lincoln, it was her first collegiate individual victory.
