The Nebraska Wesleyan basketball team features the sibling duo of Andy and Tim Schweitzer. The Bedford, Iowa natives brought success to their teams growing up, and are currently key players on the Prairie Wolves squad this season. Andy, a senior, has started all 17 games, and is second on the team in three pointers and assists.
On Friday, Jan. 20, the Nebraska Wesleyan Track and Field Team competed in its own invitational at the Devaney Sports Center on UNL's campus. The meet featured 15 teams from Division I, Division II, and NAIA conferences throughout the Midwest.
Nebraska Wesleyan crowned champions in four different indoor events to conclude 2011. The Indoor Volleyball League crowned Cody Miller's Sledgehammers the B division champions after Jordan Barrett's Tree Hill Ravens forfeited under interesting circumstances.

After a tough 2-1 loss to Briar Cliff on Oct. 29 in Sioux City, Iowa, the lady Prairie Wolves ended their 2011 campaign finishing 5-13 overall and 2-8 in the GPAC. Judging the season by their record, however, doesn't give the ladies the credit they deserve.

With the football season coming to an end soon, the men's basketball team has begun practicing for their winter season. Though there are a few games in the beginning of November, most teams wait for Friday, Nov. 11 or Saturday, Nov. 12 to begin the long haul to March.

The fall intramural season is coming to a close at Nebraska Wesleyan. Playoffs are under way in coed sand volleyball, men's flag football, and coed flag football. Sand Volleyball has narrowed the 29 team field to 4. The four remaining teams include the Sledgehammers, SandyFeet, The Chudley Cannons, and On All the Time.

A 2003 Wesleyan graduate, Mike Morgan, recorded the top performance for Team USA on September 4 at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Morgan, a two-time All-American in Track & Field at NWU, finished with a time of 2:18:30 placing 31st on the final day of the championships.
The Prairewolves opened the 2011 season on September 17 at the 22nd Annual Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational at Pioneers Park in Lincoln with great success. The men's team, currently ranked twentieth in the NCAA III, won the college division of the meet and the ninth ranked women finished third.

The Prairie Wolves women's golf team opened up the year September 3rd at the Doane Dual at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course. The team looks to improve on their sixth place GPAC finish for the 2010-11 season. Sarah Hotovy, an honorable mention All-GPAC Selection in 2010-11, will lead a young Prairie Wolves team into the GPAC qualifiers on September 16 in Sioux Center, IA.
The Nebraska Wesleyan soccer teams entered a period of transition when Sean Steele took over the head coaching duties for Mike Lynch this past offseason. Steele inherited a men's team that was .500 in the GPAC last fall and a women's team that ended GPAC regular season play with a record of 4-5-2.
The 2011 cross country season looks to be one of great excitement and opportunity for the teams. In the preseason NCAA DIII poll compiled by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the NWU women are ranked 10 and the men are ranked 23.

The NWU Men's Basketball team truly had the experience of a lifetime when they traveled to Estonia to play over a two week period this August. The Prairewolves opened the trip on August 15 with an 82-58 loss to BC Rakvere Tarvas, but bounced back on August 16 with an 88-83 victory over Tartu Rock.
Finishing the 2010 season ranked No.22 in the final AVCA/DIII poll with an overall record of 23-6 and 12-4 in the GPAC, including a seventh straight appearance in the NCAA DIII Tournament, the NWU volleyball team starts the 2011 season ranked fourth in the GPAC Coaches' poll.
The Nebraska Wesleyan football team returned to campus August 10 to prepare for the upcoming season. After a disappointing 4-6 season last year, the Prairie Wolves look to improve relying on a wealth of experience. NWU was picked to finish 6th in the GPAC.
The Lincoln Stars secured a spot in this year's United States Hockey League playoffs after missing the playoffs last season. This is the 13th playoff appearance in the franchise's 15 seasons. The Stars finished with a 33-22-5 record, and won 10 of their final 13 games.

The intramural indoor soccer season concluded on April 7 in Knight Fieldhouse with a hard fought championship match featuring the Shin Kickers and the FlapJacks. Following months of pool play, the teams emerged from a competitive thirteen team field.
NWU Men's Golfer Geoff Oliphant has been selected as this week's Player of the Week. Oliphant, a senior from Billings, Montana, currently has a stroke average of 75.67 and a versus par of 3.78 after six tournaments. He is tied for ninth in the conference in which he will be named All-Conference by the end of the season if he remains in the top ten.
Despite having a team riddled with injuries, the Nebraska Wesleyan University softball team has managed to win seven out of their last eight games, taking them to the top of the GPAC rankings. The Wesleyan softball team is continued their streak this past weekend as they went 2-0 against Stephens College of Columbus, MO and 2-0 Harris-Stowe State of St. Louis, MO. The Prairie Wolves now sit on a 10-0 record, blowing away nearly every team they've played.

Eight NWU track athletes competed in the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships held on March 11-12 in Columbus, Ohio at Capital University. The men's team finished tied for 26 with the women's team tied for 34. Senior Amanda Brichacek was the only NWU athlete to qualify in two events in which she received two indoor All-American honors for her performances in the shot put and weight throw.

The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team took the field at last this past weekend for a series with Kansas Wesleyan after their opening series with Sterling College was cancelled due to inclement weather. While the weather was not perfect for baseball, mid 30's, the bats for Nebraska Wesleyan were hot.
NWU Women's Basketball player Katy Golden becomes the tenth women's basketball player in school history to score at least 1,000 career points, after scoring 13 points in the 61-65 loss to Chapman University at the AD3I Tournament in Irving, Texas. Golden, a senior forward from Gretna, Nebraska, ended her successful four year career at NWU with exactly 1000 points.
The NWU softball team has gotten off to a great start this season, opening with a 6-0 record. They're a team of strong individual players that when they come together, create a force that is to be reckoned with. Of the 19 talented players, one really shined in their opening tournament in Dallas.

The indoor track season is off to an excellent start with both the men and women's teams nationally ranked. In the NCAA DIII National Rankings, the men are ranked 13, and the women are ranked 18. The men are also ranked number one in the NCAA Central Region Rankings with the women ranked number two.
One of Nebraska Wesleyan University's own athletes won the prestigious NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics. Marcia Kennedy, a senior softball player from Omaha, Neb., was just one of 26 NCAA athletes nationwide who received this scholarship.

On Feb. 9, NWU Women's Basketball team sported pink jerseys for a cause. The WBCA's Pink Zone® began in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball on campuses and in communities. Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, began the program after her third reoccurrence of breast cancer in 2006.
The Nebraska Wesleyan Women's Basketball team has made this season one to remember. With senior Sadie Struebing shooting her way onto the 1000-point chart, winning the most games since the 2005-2006 season, and having the third most conference wins for NWU women's basketball in their GPAC history, the Prairie Wolves have had no problem demonstrating their love for the game.
NWU Women's Basketball player Sadie Struebing is the newest member of the 1000 point club after scoring 18 points in the 73-61 victory over Dakota Wesleyan. Struebing, a senior center from Brainard, Nebraska, as of Feb. 3 had 1,044 career points. She surpassed Cindy Turman with 1,042 points for eighth all-time, needing only 19 points to move up to seventh.
The Prairie Wolves showed their confidence Feb. 2 as the Men's Basketball team took out school rival, the Doane Tigers, in a 74-70 win. Playing at the competition's home court was no easy task, for Wesleyan and Doane athletic events are always highly anticipated.
After a long break, NWU Intramurals is starting the semester off with basketball and Indoor Soccer leagues, and a Groundhog Day Dodgeball Tournament. Men and Women's Basketball leagues started play on Jan. 30. Instead of the normal two games per week, intramural staff has upgraded the leagues to three games per week.
NWU Women's Basketball player Shea Rasmussen has been chosen as this week's Player to Watch. Rasmussen, a junior guard from Longmont, Colorado, is fourth in the GPAC in three-point shooting at 42.2 percent and fifth in the GPAC in scoring with 15.3 points per game.

The Nebraska Wesleyan track & field invitational took place this past weekend (Jan. 21) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center/Knight Field House. There were many great performances, but the distance runners really set the pace. Senior Elliott Bulling received an NCAA qualifying mark in the shot put with a toss of 51-3 ½ to tie for second overall.
There's nothing like waiting until the last second: Eight-tenths of a second to be exact. The Prairie Wolf women's basketball team showed their determination on Wednesday, Jan. 19 as they clinched the win against the Hastings Broncos. With the help of lead scorers, senior Shea Rasmussen (19 points), Senior Katy Golden (18 points) and senior Sadie Struebing (17 points), the Wolves defeated the Bronocos 63-62.
The men's basketball team opened the season strong, dominating a game that led to a 74-51 victory over Millikin College in St. Louis, Mo. The Prairie Wolves attacked early, leading 39-21 at halftime. In the first half, the Prairie Wolves shot over 51 percent from the floor and held Millikin down to 28.
After a disappointing 7-16 campaign last year, the 2010-2011 Prairie Wolves women's basketball team is back with a swagger that was missing last season. So far, the P-Wolves are standing strong at 4-0. If you think they've played a pancake schedule so far, think again.

Nebraska Wesleyan has yet another coach to gloat about because the men and women's tennis coach was inducted into the Nebraska Tennis Association Hall of Fame. Harley is only the third NWU tennis coach to be inducted into the Nebraska Tennis Association Hall of Fame.
The volleyball team began their final journey of the season on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 8:30 a.m. Heading to the National Tournament beginning in St. Paul, Minnesota, they hit their first bump in the road. Their bus stalled and died at a rest stop leaving them stranded for five hours.
The Nebraska Wesleyan football team closed out their season last Saturday with a 17-14 loss to Hastings as a second-half comeback fell short for the Prairie Wolves. Two first-half turnovers proved to be more than costly for Wesleyan as it caused a 17-0 deficit at halftime.
Thanksgiving break will mark the close of regular pool play for winter intramural sports, including indoor volleyball, tuneup basketball, and broomball. Not to worry: once students return, the playoff brackets for basketball and volleyball will be up.

After two early losses at the start of the season, the Nebraska Wesleyan University football team expects to come on strong with young players in the starting lineup this year. One of these players who is having a prime impact on the Wesleyan offense is sophomore quarterback Nate Hauptman.

The Nebraska Wesleyan University volleyball team has started their season with a bang. Kicking off the season, they traveled west to Forest Grove, Oregon. There they defeated Linfield, Bethel, Pacific and Willamette, taking their season record to 4-0.
