Nebraska Wesleyan crowned champions in four different indoor events to conclude 2011. The Indoor Volleyball League crowned Cody Miller's Sledgehammers the B division champions after Jordan Barrett's Tree Hill Ravens forfeited under interesting circumstances. In the women's division, the Ball Busters beat Safe Sets 2-0 to claim the championship. Stacey Coufal, Kailin Bellows, and Hannah Marshall helped lead the Ball Busters to victory. The Ball Busters used a strong back row attack to penetrate the Safe Sets' defense.
In the A Division, the Hitlist won a hard fought victory over the Walk-Ons in a three-set thriller. The Walk-Ons came out fast to take the first game behind the swinging right arms of Bailey Soucie and, now transferred, Nick Harpster. The Hitlist fought from behind to win game two to pull the series even. Trey Nygren and Alex Habegger played key roles in stopping Harpster's attacks while mounting attacks of their own. In a pivotal third game, Katie Fagot's serving knocked the Walk-Ons off their feet, and the defense of Taryn McDowell and Laura McQuiston sealed the victory.
In Women's Basketball, the Ball Busters won yet another title. Stacey Coufal and Jordan Weinandt led the Ball Bustin' ladies to victory over the Sledgehammers. The final score was 48-25 with substantial contributions from Morgan Shea and Mindi Schlautman for the Ballbusters.
In Men's Basketball, Trey Nygren's Bosshogg Outlawz slayed the Mischievous Polar Bears 34-23 to earn red t-shirts. The unfamiliar atmosphere of Snyder Arena and the denim booty shorts of Marc Sheil contributed to the poor shooting on both sides throughout the game. Offseason conditioning and the larger court played a role in the Bosshogg Outlawz victory. The Outlawz utilized Ryan McCarty and Austin Mathers in a fast break offense to wear down the Polar Bears.
In UNL-Broomball at the Ice Box, the Velociraptors of NWU claimed the pro division title beating out 27 squads for the intramural championship. It was the second year in a row that a Wesleyan squad won UNL's pro division. Katie Hempel shined during an intense shootout victory over UNL's Sae Senior. Hempel played goalie for the Velociraptors and came up with a huge save in the shootout and followed it up by scoring the game deciding goal. Trey Nygren and Mike Lovgren scrambled to tie the game up with less than a minute remaining, and Lovgren sent a laser into the top corner of the net in his shootout attempt.
The festive Christmas 4's tournament championship featured two teams that received coal in their stocking. The Naughty List beat Team Naughty in the competitive division final. Shelby Pieper, Katie Schoen, Bryce Arp, and Spencer Choquette received their championship t-shirts as early Christmas presents, despite their spot on Santa's Naughty List.
