Coming off of arguably the best season in program history in 2009, the Nebraska Wesleyan University baseball team is out to prove that it was no fluke.

After winning the 2009 GPAC Title and setting the school record for wins with 28, the Prairie Wolves have the potential to be even better. The expectations are the highest they could be for this Prairie Wolves baseball team as they only lost two starters from last year’s team and are picked to win the GPAC by the coaches.

This NWU baseball team heralds a surplus of talent and experience with five players holding a combined eight All-GPAC honors. Senior Ace Pitcher Zane Cascini anchors
the pitching staff as he was named to the First-Team All-GPAC in ’08 and ’09 and was
named GPAC Pitcher of the Year for ’08. Sophomore pitcher Josh Ostrom was named to the Second-Team All-GPAC in ’09 as he finished with a perfect 6-0 record with the team best 2.91 ERA. Cory Hilgenkamp earned First-Team All-GPAC honors as a third baseman and Second-Team All-GPAC as a pitcher last season. He also led the team
with a batting average of .371 and wins with seven. Andy Mc-Gowan was named to the Second-Team All-GPAC in ’08 as an outfielder and was on pace to have a better season in ’09 before his season was cut short due to a broken hand. John Rust returns to the team after taking a year off in ’09. Rust was named to the First-Team All-GPAC in ’08 as a designated hitter.

With experience clearly at hand, the Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team will start their
2010 campaign down in Sterling, Ks. on Feb. 27 against Sterling College at 12:00 p.m.
