SIOUX CITY, Iowa – A pair of Nebraska Wesleyan University softball players swept the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week honors. Lauren Bodfield was named the GPAC Player-of-the-Week while Alysia Wittmaack was the GPAC Pitcher-of-the-Week.
Bodfield (Lincoln, Neb.) had two game-winning hits on the week as the Prairie Wolves went 7-1 in GPAC play. She hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to lift NWU to an extra- innings victory over Hastings on April 14. Then she made the game-winning single to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh against Concordia on April 18. For the week she hit .423 with two doubles, two home runs and ten RBI. The Lincoln Pius X H.S. graduate has now extended her hitting streak to 10 games.
Wittmaack (Lincoln, Neb.) had an outstanding week on the mound for the Prairie Wolves. She made six appearances and went 5-0 while recording one save. She had two complete game shut-outs, including a two-hitter against Mount Marty on April 17 and a no-hitter against Midland Lutheran on April 13. She just missed a perfect game against the Warriors as the leadoff batter reached on an error, but then no other Midland batter reached base. Over 32 innings of work she allowed just four earned runs to post a 0.88 ERA for the week. She struck out 34 batters and walked only one. With her victories, the Lincoln East H.S. graduate now ranks second on the NWU career win charts with 33 career wins. She already holds the career strikeout record and needs just three more to reach 400 strikeouts.
NWU took over first place in the GPAC softball standings with a 10-2 record and improved to 19-7 overall.
