March Madness Hits NCAA Fans this Month

With it being the month of March, there is one thing guaranteed to be on every true sports fan’s mind. Besides the hopeful change of weather in the near future, March Madness becomes the topic of conversation this time of year.

It’s the time of year when every college basketball fan fills out their bracket (more than one on occasion) to enter the office pool and when “Cinderella stories” from schools such as Davidson and Old Dominion actually get to be on TV.

It’s time to work some bracketology and decide who will get a bid to the ever-so- challenging “Not Ideal Tournament,” or as some like to call it, the NIT.

As far as the Big 12 goes, obvious locks for a NCAA Tourney bid include Kansas, Texas, Kansas State, Texas A&M and Baylor.

If you haven’t noticed already folks, the Nebraska men have had a tough go-around this year. If it makes you feel any better, the NU women will be a lock for a top seed and could potentially play No. 1 overall ranked UCONN in the women’s Final Four. If you want to travel to see Husker Red in the Final Four, plan a trip to San Antonio.

Getting back to the road to Indianapolis, we’ll move east to the ACC next.

In the normally superior conference, we only have two real locks for the tournament this year in No. 4 Duke and No. 22 Maryland. Teams such as Virginia Tech, Clemson and Florida State all find themselves on the bubble with few quality wins.

Roy Williams’ boys, traditional powerhouse of North Carolina, are nowhere in the ACC picture with a 4-10 conference record and 15-14 overall. I suppose there’s always next year, Roy.

March should be an eventful month of college basketball as the basketball is played at the highest level the season has seen to this point. Nobody ever knows who will peak at the right time as far as Cinderella teams.
