Nebraska Wesleyan University senior Jackie Spelts has been the named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 12-18.
Spelts, a senior from Burwell, Neb., won the 10,000 meters in record fashion at the Dick Young Classic at Grinnell College on April 17. Spelts won the race in a time of 36:10.2 which shattered the previous meet record, and also set a new NWU school record in the event.
The Burwell H.S. graduate defeated the second place competitor in the race by over three minutes. She broke the school record by over 27 seconds. The time of 36:10.2 is now the best time on the GPAC Performance chart by 1:19. She also now ranks in the top ten on the NCAA III performance list with her NCAA qualifying time.
Spelts now holds the NWU school record in both the 5,000 meters and the 10,000 meters on the outdoor charts.
