The women’s golf team got off to a solid start to their 2009 season with Alyssa McBride receiving medallist honors at the Doane College Invite, as well as a team finish of second (team score 773) at the tournament.

McBride, a sophomore from Lincoln, named GPAC Golfer-of-the-Week the first week of October after the win at Wildernes Ridge in Lincoln, a tournament hosted by Doane. She was also a key role in last year’s run to fourth place in the GPAC, along with Sarah Hotovy, another returning sophomore.

The women look to build on last year’s success as no seniors were on the team, leaving seven underclassmen in the squad. However, with no seniors, the women see a big chance for improvements in the time to come.

Five tournaments were included in the fall season this year. However, with a seventh place finish, two eighth place finishes and a disappointing ninth place finish at the Central College Invitational, the team is looking forward to redeeming themselves this spring.

From the opinion of first-year Jessyca Herman, all team members agree that there are things to work on for the upcoming spring season. “I need to work on all the parts of my game, but mostly my putting,” says the team’s only freshman.

With only seven on the team, the Prairie Wolves look to build upon what they have, especially since there are currently no seniors and everyone is back for the 09-10 year. Herman says, “I think we’ll have a good spring, especially since we’re all going to be practicing and trying to get better this winter.”

Coaching the women’s golf team, Stacy Graham will be in charge of the run for another good GPAC finish. The Prairie Wolves look to improve upon last year, as after two GPAC qualifier tournaments they are sitting in eighth. Last year they were in the same spot at this time.
