The Joke That Wouldn’t Die: A Writer’s Commentary

Before reading this article, I suggest you hop online and check out the April Fool’s article about Miley Cyrus on www.thereveillenwu.com -trust me, you’ll better understand what I’m talking about.

If you have read that ridiculous article, you best jump to the news section in this issue and read the article explaining the absurd predicament I have found myself in. Got that done? Great – let’s continue.

When I wrote this article for the April Fool’s issue I had NO idea that it would become such a hot button topic. Seriously, what is more ludicrous than the idea of Miley Cyrus attending college, let alone coming to NWU?

Sorry, I don’t mean to bash Miley Cyrus’s personal character, but do any of us really expect her to get a higher education? [insert answer here] That’s irrelevant. It completely boggles my mind that someone would be able to read that and think it legit. Your spidey senses should be tingling after reading the very first sentence –spidey calls B.S, but some people did not.

In the defense of those who took this article seriously –it was taken out of context if read online.

The admin of the Reveille site has since posted a disclaimer on the specific article claiming its falsehood. TGFT.

Now, I am not bothered that people believe such a joke –that amuses me; however it is hard to believe that some people can be that gullible. Whatever. The fact that some readers did believe is actually a great compliment to me. That some could believe such an obvious lie shows that I am at the least a rather effective writer. Success in fiction writing, here I come.

I am certainly pleased that no one personally contacted me for a statement; however the comments left on the article itself were response enough.

It sort of amazes me how upset people can get when they realize they have been fooled, or when something just seems utterly absurd to them.

Some people supported my writing –stating that of course it was fake (thank you friends). Other commenters –who knows where they are from –chose to attack my credibility and the artistry of Miley Cyrus. Whatever your opinion about either Miss Cyrus or myself, we are both human and deserve respect for our talents.

Though I doubt Miley Cyrus would ever read the comments, I did. I am amused enough not to be offended.

I think it wise for anyone to realize that you simply cannot believe everything you read on the Internet, especially when it’s about people like Miley Cyrus. Let’s not be so gullible, guys! Skepticism is a great gift to have, as long as you know where to draw the line.

I look forward to writing for the April Fool’s issue again. Who knows, maybe this time we will be expecting Edward Cullen to grace Smith-Curtis with all of his freakishly pale siblings…I know I wouldn’t mind.
