Let’s Start With The Most Basic Question: what Is IPTV?

It may be useful at first to consider IPTV as IP and TV. IP in IPTV is no different from the terms Voice over IP (VoIP) and IP address. IP itself stands for Internet Protocol. This describes the protocol by which analog data is digitized and delivered over the Internet.

The television in the acronym IPTV means television. Together, they describe encoded Internet TV programming sent over the Web – “Internet Protocol Television“.

Traditional satellite antenna networks and terrestrial cable television broadcasters provide analog audio and video offerings to primarily residential viewers. Television sets receive these signals, with the audience limited to watching what is broadcast.

Without a personal video recorder (PVR) such as a TiVo recording device, you cannot choose what is on or when. You turn on the television and end up watching the quality programming that broadcasters are currently sending.
